I’m Susan MacLeod, cartoonist, artist, and author.

I’ve always wanted people and ideas, particularly challenging ones, to be heard. That’s why Communications was my professional career.

Now, I want people and ideas to be seen, particularly if my cartoon and illustration work helps support change and adds compassion to our strained health care systems.

I’m also happy my cartoons are supporting the work of “grief literacy” - increasing awareness of grief "so that we can all better support ourselves, others and our communities”. This work is through Grief Matters, a non-profit research group of academics and others.

I hold undergraduate degrees from Mount Allison and NSCAD Universities plus a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Nonfiction from University of King’s College. I have also completed the Graphic Novel and Visual Narratives residency at the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity, and received a certificate from the Sequential Artists Workshop year-long program in Florida.

I've had success as a graphic recorder and sketchnote artist for the past seven years and am happy to discuss what I can do for you in that regard.

I’m also a founding member of VEOLI - Visualizing End of Life Issues. As our website states, “. . . the intention is to create a useful communications tool designed to help individuals and families process this time of life and its deep meaning.”

“Susan’s cartoons are full of warmth, tenderness, and insight. She shows the world of old age with humour and heartbreak. She has a light touch, and her stories linger in mind long after reading.”
